1,000 Residents Now Have Access to Clean Water through a Bore Well and Ablution Facility at Koto Tangah Grand Mosque

Access to clean water and proper worship facilities is an important part of community life. To support these needs, various parties inaugurated a bore well and ablution facility program at Koto Tangah Grand Mosque in Padang, West Sumatra, on Thursday, May 14, 2026.

Human Initiative, together with partners and the local community, carried out this program as part of ongoing recovery efforts through the #SumatraPulih initiative in several areas of West Sumatra. The program includes a 50-meter-deep bore well and one ablution facility. The implementation team completed the drilling process in nearly two months, as they encountered large rocks in the construction area. The presence of these facilities helps meet the clean water needs of around 1,000 worshippers and nearby residents.

The event was attended by the Minister of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia, the Governor of West Sumatra, the Deputy Mayor of Padang, the Chairperson of the Koto Tangah Grand Mosque Management Board, and representatives of Human Initiative. Around 100 worshippers and local residents also took part in the series of activities at Koto Tangah Grand Mosque.

“This program not only provides access to clean water and proper ablution facilities, but also serves as a real form of humanitarian collaboration to support a healthier, more comfortable, and more dignified life for the community. We believe that sustainable recovery begins with the fulfillment of basic needs and the involvement of many parties moving together,” said Tomy Hendrajati, President of Human Initiative.

Collaboration to Support Recovery Efforts

The event began with the singing of Indonesia Raya, followed by Qur’an recitation and a prayer. After that, the Deputy Mayor of Padang, H. Maigus Nasir, M.Pd., Human Initiative President Tomy Hendrajati, and the Governor of West Sumatra, H. Mahyeldi Ansharullah, delivered their remarks. The committee also presented a program video before proceeding to the symbolic handover session.

The Minister of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia, the Deputy Mayor of Padang, and Human Initiative then symbolically handed over the assistance. Invited guests also visited the bore well and ablution facility site to take part in the ribbon-cutting procession and the signing of the commemorative plaque.

“Collaboration like this shows that community development is not only about infrastructure, but also about care and strengthening people’s quality of life. The presence of clean water facilities, proper places of worship, and vocational training is an important step in supporting communities to become more independent and productive,” said the Minister of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Yassierli, Ph.D.

In addition to inaugurating the clean water facilities, Human Initiative also handed over a Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training program. This program supports capacity building and the strengthening of community economic activities.

Human Initiative, together with individual donors, communities, and institutional partners, continues to support the community recovery process in West Sumatra.
