40 Disaster-Affected Families Now Have Temporary Shelters in Aceh Tamiang

Floods and landslides struck Aceh Tamiang at the end of 2025. The disaster changed the lives of many families in Sunting Village, Bandar Pusaka District. After passing through the emergency response phase, communities needed proper shelter to continue their recovery process.

Through the support of donors, 40 families in Sunting Village received temporary shelters on Saturday, August 1, 2026. The Sunting Village mosque became the venue for the handover of the shelters. The event was attended by Sunting Village Datok Penghulu Azhari, Village Secretary Ahmad Afandi, village officials, Human Initiative Vice President of Resource Mobilization and Impact Romi Ardiansyah, Human Initiative Vice President of Communication and Global Engagement Bambang Suherman, and the Human Initiative team.

A representative child from Sunting Village opened the event with a Qur’an recitation. The village government and Human Initiative then delivered remarks. A Human Initiative representative handed over the shelter keys to Program Rights Holders. Participants continued the activity with a joint prayer, then visited the shelter locations and clean water facilities.

Human Initiative Vice President of Communication and Global Engagement Bambang Suherman said the construction of temporary shelters is part of the donors’ trust to support the community recovery process.

“Human Initiative, as a facilitator for donors, strives to accompany communities from the emergency response phase, through transition, and into recovery. The provision of 40 temporary shelters aims to ensure that every affected family has a more comfortable place to live, so families can gather, talk, and continue striving as they usually do, allowing the recovery process to move faster,” said Bambang.

In addition to building 40 temporary shelters, donors through Human Initiative also distributed food packages, hygiene kits, bedding kits, school supplies for MIS Sunting students, support for heavy equipment rental, and the construction of two bore wells and one clean water filtration facility. The total value of this support reached around IDR 1.6 billion. This program is part of the #SumatraPulih recovery effort in Sunting Village.

Every recovery step becomes more meaningful when carried out together. Collaboration among the community, government, donors, and various partners expands benefits for more families. This togetherness becomes a strength that supports communities in continuing their recovery process.
