Flooding struck Hutanabolon Village in Tukka District, South Tapanuli, at the end of November 2025. Water and mud damaged residential areas and forced many families to leave homes that were no longer safe. Several houses were severely damaged or completely lost, leaving hundreds of residents living in evacuation tents until now.
At the evacuation site, nearly 800 families continue to live with limited resources. Children, adults, and elderly residents share the same temporary spaces. Almost two months have passed, yet daily activities have not fully recovered. Most displaced residents work as plantation farmers. However, damaged farmland has prevented them from returning to work and earning income.
Alongside the loss of livelihoods, residents also face challenging environmental conditions. When rain falls, mud makes the tent areas slippery and dangerous. During dry weather, heat and dust disrupt daily activities. At the same time, residents still struggle to meet their needs for clean water and limited sanitation facilities.
In these circumstances, the Bag of Happiness food assistance package helps maintain daily food availability for displaced families. The package provides staple ingredients that can be prepared together in communal kitchens. Residents organize meals simply, share responsibilities, and support one another despite the limitations.
The distribution of Bag of Happiness helps ensure food supplies remain available while families have not yet regained their income. These staple food packages provide certainty that families can meet their daily meal needs, allowing routines in the evacuation area to continue in a more organized way.
This effort moves forward through collaboration among many caring partners. Human Initiative channels the trust of donors so displaced residents can benefit from food assistance according to their needs.
Solidarity makes every journey more meaningful. When compassion comes together and moves collectively, even small acts of support can reach more families and expand their impact in evacuation communities.
Let us collaborate in kindness through solusipeduli.org to help sustain food availability for displaced families and support the ongoing recovery process.
