Blood Donation and Humanitarian Action: A Simple Way to Save Others

Every day, many patients need blood transfusions for treatment and recovery. Blood plays an important role in various conditions, from surgery and emergency care for accident victims to the treatment of certain diseases. For this reason, blood donation is one form of care that brings direct benefits to others.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), around 120.4 million blood donations are collected every year worldwide. This figure shows that more people are taking part in helping others through blood donation. Even so, the need for blood continues to arise every day, making donor participation essential.

Through World Blood Donor Day, commemorated every June 14, the public is invited to understand that sharing is not always about material support. A drop of donated blood can help patients receive the support they need during treatment.

In addition to helping others, blood donation also provides benefits for donors, including:

  • Helping maintain circulatory system health through the formation of new blood cells.
  • Helping identify health conditions early through hemoglobin checks, blood pressure checks, and other basic screenings.
  • Supporting physical fitness, as the blood donation process uses energy.
  • Stimulating the production of new blood cells as part of the body’s natural regeneration process.
  • Providing psychological satisfaction from contributing to the well-being of others.

However, many donors believe that the greatest benefit of blood donation lies in the opportunity to share care. A donor may not know the person who receives their blood. Even so, this simple act can help someone get through a difficult time.

This spirit of sharing is also part of the humanitarian values that Human Initiative continues to encourage through its various programs. On this World Blood Donor Day, let us continue nurturing care and expanding benefits for others. Together with Human Initiative, Dear Initiator can collaborate in various acts of kindness through solusipeduli.org and become part of the effort to help communities in need.
