Collaborating with HI, Pelindo Launches Groundbreaking Ceremony for Clean Water Development and Revitalization Program in Makawidey Bitung

MAKASSAR, November 14, 2024 – PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) (Pelindo), through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, officially held the groundbreaking ceremony for the development and revitalization of a clean water supply system in Makawidey Village, Aertembaga District, Bitung City, North Sulawesi, on Thursday, November 13, 2024.

The groundbreaking marks the start of a strategic initiative aimed at improving the quality of life for local residents by providing better access to clean water. This project reflects Pelindo’s commitment to supporting public infrastructure development that directly benefits communities, particularly in addressing basic needs such as clean water.

The event was attended by James David Hukom, General Manager of Pelindo Regional 4 Bitung; Ferdy H. Sijadi, HR and General Affairs Manager of Pelindo Regional 4 Bitung; Burhanuddin, Finance Manager of Pelindo Regional 4 Bitung; Harun Wahab, Manager of Miscellaneous Services at Pelindo Regional 4 Bitung; Elipson Manderos, Head of Makawidey Village; representatives from Human Initiative; as well as local community leaders and traditional figures.

Corporate Commitment to Social Welfare

James David Hukom emphasized that this initiative is a tangible manifestation of Pelindo’s corporate social responsibility to enhance the welfare of surrounding communities.

“As a company in the logistics and port services sector, Pelindo is committed not only to transportation infrastructure development but also to contributing to the social and economic progress of communities. This includes improving access to clean water in areas where it is urgently needed,” he stated.

Safer, High-Quality Clean Water Access

The development and revitalization project includes the construction of a new water treatment plant, repair and expansion of pipe distribution networks, and provision of supporting facilities. With this project, over 300 households in Makawidey Village are expected to gain access to safer, high-quality clean water.

Elipson Manderos, Head of Makawidey Village, expressed his gratitude to Pelindo for its initiative and support. “Clean water is an essential need for everyone. This project will greatly assist in meeting clean water demands, which have been a challenge in several areas, including Makawidey Village. We hope the project proceeds smoothly and is completed on schedule,” he said.

A Collaboration for Sustainable Impact

The clean water system development and revitalization program in Makawidey is a collaborative effort with Human Initiative, targeted for completion within three months. In addition to directly benefiting the community, this project is expected to improve sanitation and public health while fostering local economic growth through the availability of adequate clean water.

As part of its sustainability commitment, Pelindo ensures that the project will adhere to environmentally friendly principles and sustainable resource management practices.
