Collaboration Between Human Initiative and XM Indonesia Provides Aid for Flash Flood Victims in Ternate

Ternate, 5 September 2024 – XM Indonesia, in collaboration with Human Initiative (HI), distributed aid to the community affected by flash floods in Rua Village, Ternate Island District, Ternate City, North Maluku. This aid was aimed at alleviating the burden on residents currently displaced after their homes were impacted by the disaster.

The aid distribution took place at the SMKN 4 Ternate evacuation site on 4-5 September 2024. The assistance included 25 ready-to-eat meal packages consisting of boxed rice with side dishes and bottled water. Additionally, HI and XM Indonesia distributed 80 fruit packages containing apples, oranges, grapes, and boxed milk.

In the early stages of disaster response, especially after a major event like a flash flood, the primary needs of survivors are quick and practical assistance. Ready-to-eat meals become a priority because emergency conditions often prevent residents from cooking for themselves, either due to limited access, lack of equipment, or physical exhaustion. Therefore, the distribution of ready-to-eat meals during this phase is crucial to ensure survivors receive adequate nutrition while waiting for the situation to stabilize and public kitchens to become fully operational.

To support the basic needs of the evacuees, Human Initiative and XM Indonesia also provided a water kitchen for two days, serving 70 people per day. This kitchen offered cold and hot drinking water, along with coffee, cereal, milk, tea, and various other beverages. Additionally, supplemental food such as porridge, boiled bananas, fruit soup, mung bean porridge, and bread was also provided for the evacuees.

The presence of Human Initiative and XM Indonesia is hoped to ease the burden on the affected community and help them recover from this disaster. This aid is a tangible expression of the shared commitment to always care for and support others in times of need.

“Thank you for the generosity of the donors and volunteers who have helped us here. May you be blessed,” said one of the Program Beneficiaries.
