Luwu, May 12, 2024 – PT PLN Indonesia Power continues its efforts in fulfilling social and environmental responsibilities, particularly in the disaster management sector. Recently, flash floods have devastated parts of South Sulawesi, with the hardest-hit area being Luwu Regency. At least 3,268 houses have been submerged, and 211 houses have been swept away and severely damaged. Four road sections, one bridge, and 14 vehicles were also damaged. So far, the death toll has reached 12. Through the Tello Generation Business Unit (UBP), PLN Indonesia Power, in collaboration with Human Initiative, has distributed aid to the flood survivors.
This aid distribution also involved collaboration with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Luwu Regency. In coordination with BPBD Luwu, Mr. Zainal, the assessment coordinator, recommended two severely affected areas: Kaili Village in West Suli Subdistrict and Bonelemo Village in West Bajo Subdistrict. Data shows that in Kaili Village, 10 houses were swept away, 14 houses were severely damaged, dozens of houses were submerged, and 4 people died. Meanwhile, in Bonelemo Village, 9 houses were swept away, 8 were severely damaged, and dozens were submerged.
The manager of PT PLN Indonesia Power UBP Tello explained that the aid distributed included Family Kits, Hygiene Kits, and Baby Kits.
“We hope this assistance can ease the burden on the flood victims, especially the vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children. Our focus in this distribution is indeed on vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and women. This is a special concern for us without neglecting other survivors,” said Hariady.
Saharuddin, the Head of Kaili Village, appreciated PLN UBP Tello for their compassionate assistance, “the aid provided will be very beneficial, especially for the affected residents. We are grateful to PLN for this assistance,” said Saharuddin.
Appreciation from Program Beneficiaries for the Support Received
In addition to the village head, the community also expressed their happiness and appreciation for what PT PLN Indonesia Power UBP Tello has done. “Thank you for the help, even though we are in mourning, the sadness is lessened by the kindness you have shown,” said Sitti Halijah, one of the program beneficiaries.
“We continue to monitor the current situation while coordinating with the local government and are prepared to take anticipatory steps if necessary,” concluded Hariady.
