As a gesture of solidarity with the victims of the recent flooding in South Sulawesi, Human Initiative collaborated with PLN Indonesia Power Unit Bisnis Pembangkitan (UBP) Tello and the local government to provide aid to flood survivors in Tello Baru, Makassar, on February 14. Since February 7, 2025, heavy rainfall across parts of Makassar, including Tello Baru, has caused widespread flooding. At its peak on February 12, nearly 600 residents and hundreds of homes were affected. In response, PLN IP UBP Tello, together with Human Initiative and local authorities, immediately deployed an evacuation team.
Gradual Distribution of Aid
Beyond evacuation efforts, flood survivors received various forms of assistance, including ready-to-eat meals, basic food packages, and hygiene kits. The aid was distributed in stages. The first phase, on February 13, provided ready-to-eat meals to ensure affected residents had access to food supplies. The second phase, on February 14, included additional meals, essential food packages, and hygiene kits to help survivors meet their daily needs.
Collaboration Across Institutions
The aid distribution was overseen by representatives from Human Initiative, PLN IP UBP Tello, and the Tello Baru subdistrict office. M. Isvan Qadir Djahar, the head of Tello Baru, highlighted this initiative as a reflection of PLN IP UBP Tello’s commitment to supporting flood survivors in South Sulawesi. “We hope this assistance alleviates the burden of those affected and helps them meet their basic needs during this difficult time,” he stated.
Additionally, Jabal Nur, Head of Human Initiative South Sulawesi, expressed gratitude for the partnership with PLN IP UBP Tello in responding to the crisis. He emphasized the importance of cooperation between PLN IP UBP Tello, the government, and other stakeholders in flood relief efforts. “We hope the aid provided will be beneficial to the affected communities,” he added.
Meanwhile, Hariady Bayu Aji, Manager of PLN IP UBP Tello, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to responding effectively in emergency situations like floods. “Moving forward, PLN IP UBP Tello will continue collaborating with various parties to ensure the best support for those in need while fostering a spirit of unity in facing challenges together,” he said.
