Human Initiative organized the Disaster Safe School Forum 2026 to strengthen preparedness within educational environments. The event took place at the Human Initiative Headquarters on Thursday, 30 April 2026, and involved various stakeholders who are concerned about disaster-related issues.
The Disaster Safe Education Unit Program has a clear foundation. The Indonesian government regulates the program through Ministry of Education and Culture Regulation Number 33 of 2019 concerning the Disaster Safe Education Unit Program. The regulation encourages schools to strengthen preparedness, ranging from risk reduction efforts to emergency response measures.
From the beginning of the event, participants filled the discussion room and built warm conversations with one another. They exchanged greetings before moving into deeper discussions. During the forum, participants did not only listen to presentations. They also actively discussed, asked questions, and exchanged perspectives regarding preparedness within their respective environments.
During the HI Talks on Disaster Safe Education Units, Deny Kurniawan, Manager of Disaster Risk Management at Human Initiative, emphasized the importance of building a culture of preparedness from an early stage. According to him, schools hold strong potential to cultivate risk awareness as part of everyday habits.
Meanwhile, Agus Sulistyo from SDN 3 Imogiri shared his school’s experience in implementing the Disaster Safe Education Unit program. He explained that the school introduced evacuation routes, conducted disaster simulations, and taught emergency response measures to students. This experience became even more meaningful after the school faced the Pacitan earthquake in May 2024.
In addition to the discussion sessions, participants also joined the Philosophical Walk Disaster Response session. Through this activity, participants learned that preparedness is not only about procedures. Preparedness also requires empathy, composure, and the ability to make decisions during emergencies.
A strong sense of togetherness was present throughout the forum. Participants complemented one another’s ideas and strengthened the initiatives they planned to bring back to their communities. Because of this, collaboration opens opportunities to expand preparedness efforts to more educational environments.
Human Initiative also invites the public to take part in collaborative humanitarian efforts through solusipeduli.org so more communities can gradually and sustainably strengthen preparedness efforts.
