Heavy rainfall in late November triggered a flash flood in the hilly areas of Agam Regency. The surge of water, carrying mud and logs, swept into residential zones and blocked several access roads. This disaster disrupted daily activities and left a number of areas, including Malalak, struggling to meet their basic needs. Communities urgently needed support, especially access to clean water and lighting during the night.
Human Initiative deployed an additional response team on Sunday evening, 30 November 2025, to address these needs. The team carried essential equipment for a temporary water kitchen and a generator unit to support the community. After reaching the farthest point accessible by vehicle, the team continued on foot for nearly an hour, navigating steep terrain and crossing streams while carrying the generator and other supplies. This effort ensured that all equipment arrived safely in Korong Campago.
Upon arrival, the Human Initiative team organized the Pertamina water-kitchen area and installed the generator to restore lighting throughout the night. These efforts created a much-needed space for residents to resume basic daily activities that had been disrupted for days due to flooding and power outages. The water kitchen and generator became critical support for families as they worked to regain stability during the recovery period.
By Monday morning, 1 December 2025, the water kitchen in Jorong Bukik Malancah was fully operational. Residents immediately made use of the facility to support their daily needs and access clean water. This service has become an essential part of the recovery process in Malalak.
Human Initiative continues to work toward providing relevant and timely support for flood-affected communities across West Sumatra. Every step in the field is made possible through the collaboration of many who are committed to helping families recover more quickly and with greater resilience.
Dear Initiators are invited to join these efforts to support families in Malalak. Visit solusipeduli.org to contribute and stand with those who are striving to rebuild their lives. Every act of support brings hope and helps families reclaim a safe and stable environment.
