Flash Floods Hit Padang, Human Initiative Evacuates Residents and Distributes 250 Ready-to-Eat Meal Packs

Flash floods struck the city of Padang once again on Thursday, 28 November 2025. The main road connecting Pasar Baru and Andalas University became one of the newest affected points after the Gunung Nago River overflowed. Floodwaters inundated the major route and brought daily activities to a halt. Many residents and students were unable to leave the area and required immediate evacuation to safer locations.

Human Initiative responded swiftly. Local volunteers from the Human Initiative Volunteer Energy (HIVE) joined the joint response team and moved directly into the flooded area. They mapped out locations with the most urgent needs and evacuated residents trapped in their homes as well as students stranded along the main road. The team deployed tactical vehicles and rubber boats to navigate the floodwaters safely while ensuring that every evacuation was carried out with caution.

Once evacuations were underway, Human Initiative continued to assist survivors by distributing 250 ready-to-eat meal packs. The team prioritized households with older persons, families with young children, and students who had gathered at temporary shelters. The distribution process was organized carefully so that recipients could remain safe and did not need to return to high-risk areas to access food.
