Floods in Sintang, West Kalimantan Have Not Receded Since a Month Ago

Heavy rains that have occurred since Saturday, November 6, 2021, have caused 1-3 meter height flooding in Sintang Regency. This flood has been going on for one month since October 2021. As of Saturday, November 20, 2021, flooding in Sintang Regency has affected 12 sub-districts with the number of survivors reaching more than 25 thousand people.

Two sub districts, namely Kayan Hilir and Sintang are the areas worst hit by floods. The flood in Sintang reached 100-300 centimeters, although in some locations it gradually receded to 50 cm. However, there are still seven sub-districts in Sintang that are still submerged. The seven sub-districts include Dedai, Kelam Permai, Binjai Hulu, Ketungau Hilir, Sempauk, Temunak, and the worst one is Sintang District.

Human Initiative Action Against Sintang Flood

The Human Initiative volunteers together with local volunteers were deployed to the flooded area to provide basic food assistance that Initiator Friends had entrusted. Other aids that were also distributed included personal hygiene kits, home cleaning kits, and clean water needs.

Up to this day a total of 73 packages of the 100 food packages have been and will be distributed. Meanwhile, the distribution areas for the basic food packages include Ulak Jaya Village, Kapuas Kanan Hilir and Hulu Villages, and the most widely found in Sungai Ana Village. One basic food package consists of 5 kg of rice, 1 cooking oil, 10 eggs, 1 kg of sugar, and 1 kg of soy sauce.
