Helping the Prosperity of Coffee Farmers and MSMEs Through the Village Industry Build Program

Rawagede, Bogor : T o improve the welfare of coffee farmers and MSME business groups, Human initiative held the Village Industry Development Program (BID) and the Community Independent Business Group (KUMM). In this program, residents of Sirnajaya Village, Sukamakmur Village, Bogor Regency are the beneficiaries of this program. This program is part of the Initiative for Empowerment. That is a program that focuses on community empowerment and maximizing the potential in an area.
This program runs from July 2021 to June 2022. During the program, the Human Initiative, supported by donors, implemented the program through a community empowerment approach. These activities focus on improving product quality, packaging, processing techniques, strengthening product legality, and marketing. In addition, there is also institutional capacity for farmer groups and MSMEs in Sirnajaya Village which aims to increase the income of rural communities in the future.
The beneficiaries of the BID program are coffee farmers in Rawa Gede, Sirnajaya Village. These beneficiaries also collaborate with the Sirnajaya Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes), especially in the marketing of coffee products and collaboration in the development of the Rawa Gede Agrotourism area.
In addition to the BID program, Human Initiative also fosters housewives in Kebon Danas Village, Sirnajaya Village, through the KUMM program. Housewives who have the potential to make culinary products and souvenirs typical of Sirnajaya Village are fostered in terms of production, packaging, marketing, to P-IRT certification, so that the products produced are worth selling outside the region.
Positive Impact for Beneficiaries

The training and mentoring that took place throughout the program was well received and had a positive impact on the beneficiaries. Among them is the increasing income after participating in the empowerment program as well as increasing knowledge and skills.
In the BID program, prior to receiving the intervention, the number of beneficiaries of underprivileged family group was 78% (income < 3.5 million rupiah). While the other 22% belong to the prosperous family group (income above 3.5 million rupiah). After the intervention of the BID program for 1 year, 52% of the beneficiaries increase to become prosperous families.
In addition, the capacity of beneficiaries to manage independent businesses has also increased. Through ongoing training activities, the beneficiaries now gain knowledge about product planning, processing techniques, strengthening product legality and marketing.
