The search for survivors who went missing due to a landslide in Sukabumi, West Java has yet to yield results as of Tuesday (March 11). Simpenan Sub-district and Lengkong Sub-district have become the focal points for the search of the missing survivors.
According to Detik.com, a family of three has been reported missing: Darjat (60), Siti Mariyam (35, wife), and Ahyar Fauzi (9, child). Based on reports from local residents, the soil behind their house shifted while they were sleeping. In seconds, their home collapsed and was swept away by the landslide material. As of Tuesday (March 11), evacuation teams have yet to find the three missing family members.
Ryan Christian, the head of Kansar Jakarta rescue team, mentioned that the main obstacle in the evacuation is the blocked access to the evacuation point due to landslides.
“Today’s search for the Sukabumi landslide victims has been hindered by access to the location and communication challenges in the field,” he said in an interview with TvOne.
The Human Initiative team, together with SAR teams, continue their efforts to locate the missing family. The muddy terrain and challenging ground conditions are obstacles for HI teams in the search and rescue operations. Additionally, the limited tools being used have made the search even more difficult.
The HI team shared various challenges, including bad weather and blocked access roads due to the landslides. During the evacuation process, the team faced difficulties as the landslide debris kept piling up every day. They have even been using manual methods, such as shovels and water pumps.
Human Initiative’s team has always provided an effective response to various natural disasters in different areas. The team members who are deployed have extensive experience in handling such situations. Whenever dealing with a disaster, the HI team always coordinates with SAR teams, ensuring that the evacuation process runs smoothly and also helps in deploying equipment and resources from HI.
