HI & PLN Indonesia Power UBP Tello Collaboration Assists Makassar Residents in Tackling Clean Water Crisis

Makassar, October 28, 2024 – In collaboration with Human Initiative (HI), PLN Indonesia Power UBP Tello has committed to delivering the best services to the community. This partnership has resulted in a clean water distribution program targeting residents in Makassar City, specifically in Tallo and Bontoala subdistricts, which commenced on Wednesday, October 23.

The distribution points include Rappokalling and Tallo Villages in Tallo Subdistrict, as well as Timongan Lompoa and Bontoala Villages in Bontoala Subdistrict.

This program aims to assist communities struggling to access clean water due to the prolonged dry season and limited availability of borehole water. Over the past two to three months, many residents have been forced to purchase clean water from water depots at varying costs, ranging from IDR 1,000 to IDR 5,000 per gallon. This situation has not only burdened daily needs such as bathing, washing, and cooking but has also led several water depots to close due to severely limited supplies.

Supporting Affected Communities

The clean water distribution program was initiated as part of PLN Indonesia Power UBP Tello’s social responsibility to be present for communities in need. By distributing clean water, the program seeks to alleviate residents’ burdens in meeting their basic needs during this crisis. PLN Indonesia Power Tello has coordinated with local village officials to ensure smooth and targeted water distribution.

Zainal, Head of Tallo Village, expressed profound gratitude for PLN Indonesia Power UBP Tello’s care. “On behalf of the residents, we extend our heartfelt thanks to PLN Indonesia Power UBP Tello for providing solutions to the clean water issues we have been facing. This assistance is invaluable to our community, especially in such challenging times,” he stated.

Commitment to the Community

Hariady Bayu Aji, Manager of UBP Tello, affirmed that as a socially responsible company, PLN Indonesia Power UBP Tello remains committed to supporting community welfare, particularly in emergencies like the current water crisis.

“This clean water distribution program is expected not only to provide a short-term solution but also to drive further collaboration with various stakeholders in addressing clean water access issues sustainably,” said Hariady.

Through this program, the collaboration between PLN Indonesia Power UBP Tello and Human Initiative is expected to continue providing solutions to the challenges faced by Makassar residents. This effort demonstrates the company’s vision of not only fulfilling energy needs but also contributing to improving the quality of life for the community.
