Human Initiative Actions Against the Impact of the Pandeglang Earthquake

The earthquake hitting South Banten area on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 16.05 WIB caused damage to a number of buildings. The results of the BMKG analysis show that this earthquake has an updated parameter with a magnitude of 6.6 on the Richter Scale. The epicenter of the earthquake was located at coordinates 7.21 South Latitude; 105.05 East Longitude. Precisely located at sea at a distance of 132 Km southwest of Pandeglang City, Pandeglang Regency, Banten at a depth of 40 Km.

As a result of this earthquake, a number of buildings were damaged. For example, in Pandeglang Regency, there are 27 housing units, 5 school units (MTS 3, MAN 4, SDN 3, SDN Ujung, SDN 2 Cigondrong), 1 community health center (Puskesmas), and 1 factory unit were damaged.

In Serang Regency, 4 houses were recorded as moderately damaged. While in Lebak Regency 1 person suffered minor injuries, 2 school units were damaged (MAN 3 Lebak, Madrasah Ibtidaiyah). 5 houses suffered heavy damage. The earthquake, which was centered in the Banten region, was also felt in several areas, starting from DKI Jakarta, Cianjur, Sukabumi, Karawang, Bogor, to the West Lampung region.

Based on this incident, Human Initiative volunteers immediately provided a disaster response in the form of coordination with local volunteers, BPBD and local government. As a preventive measure against higher risks in dealing with earthquakes, Human Initiative has also taken steps to disseminate information and education about earthquakes in Citeureup Village, Pandeglang.

From the results of data collection and coordination, one of the most urgent needs for those affected by the Pandeglang earthquake at this time is logistics. In the future, the team will continue to collect data and coordinate with all relevant parties so that they can provide a better response to those affected.
