Human Initiative and AWS Plant 450 Mangrove Seedlings in Muara Gembong through the “Saving Oxygen” Program

Bekasi, June 29, 2025 – Human Initiative (HI), in collaboration with AWS, planted mangrove seedlings as part of the “Saving Oxygen” program in the Muara Gembong area, Bekasi. More than 20 volunteers with a strong concern for environmental issues and climate change participated in this program.

A total of 450 mangrove seedlings were planted across Pantai Sederhana Village, Muara Gembong Subdistrict. Mangrove plants play an important role in protecting coastal areas from erosion and are a key step in restoring the local ecosystem.

“Each seedling matters to the community. This initiative is not just about planting trees, but also about helping local residents preserve their environment against coastal erosion,” said Arif Setyawan, a representative from HI’s Volunteer Management.

The “Saving Oxygen” program is a joint initiative between Human Initiative and AWS to support environmental conservation and climate change mitigation efforts. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a United Nations body focused on climate science, the Earth’s temperature has already increased by more than 1.1°C since the pre-industrial era.

“Planting mangroves is not just a symbolic act. It has a direct impact on climate resilience and the livelihoods of local communities,” Arif added.

Beyond its ecological value, this program also aims to build collective awareness and encourage cross-sector collaboration. It invites participation from the private sector, government, local communities, and youth to take an active role in preserving the planet.

With the spirit of collaboration, HI and AWS hope the “Saving Oxygen” program will serve as an inspiration to care for the Earth and safeguard the future.
