East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) – Human Initiative, in collaboration with Mercy Corps Indonesia (MCI), implemented a Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) program on Thursday, 16 October 2025, to support communities affected by the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in East Flores Regency, NTT. The distribution event took place at the SMAN 1 Titehena Hall, Titehena Subdistrict, with the support of village authorities and local stakeholders.
This program aims to strengthen the economic recovery of disaster-affected communities. Through multi-purpose non-cash assistance, residents are able to meet their essential family needs, such as food, household items, and small business capital. This approach encourages affected families to regain self-reliance and accelerate recovery after losing their sources of livelihood due to the disaster.
Petrus Dua Puka, Head of Nawokote Village, expressed his gratitude for the support provided by both organizations. “We are thankful to Mercy Corps Indonesia and Human Initiative for assisting our residents during the recovery period after the eruption. This aid means a lot for helping the community restart their economic activities,” he said.
Before the distribution, teams from Human Initiative and Mercy Corps Indonesia conducted a thorough assessment of 266 participants in the affected areas. After data verification and field validation, 200 beneficiaries were selected from six villages: Nawokote, Klatanlo, Hokeng Jaya, Boru, Nobo, and Dulipali. The selected recipients are currently residing in temporary shelters in Konga Village, Titehena Subdistrict.
In addition to the non-cash assistance, both organizations distributed 75 water tanks with a capacity of 2,300 liters each to improve access to clean water in the temporary shelters. Through this collaboration, Human Initiative and Mercy Corps Indonesia continue to strengthen community resilience in disaster-prone regions.
