Jakarta, 30 November 2025 — Human Initiative (HI) continues to conduct intensive monitoring of the floods and landslides that have struck Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra since late November. According to reports from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the number of fatalities across the three provinces has reached 303 people, consisting of 47 in Aceh, 166 in North Sumatra, and 90 in West Sumatra. In addition, hundreds of residents remain unaccounted for in several areas.
Extreme weather, high rainfall, and rising river levels have triggered widespread flooding, inundated homes, covered access roads with landslide material, and isolated multiple villages.
Field Conditions Across Three Provinces
In Aceh, flooding has submerged hundreds of homes. Affected families have taken refuge in village halls and public facilities. Water levels may continue to rise as heavy rain persists.
In North Sumatra, severe flooding combined with landslides has cut off inter-village roads, making access to several areas extremely difficult. BNPB has emphasized the need to accelerate logistics distribution in isolated regions.
Meanwhile in West Sumatra, muddy floods and hillside landslides occurred almost simultaneously. Mud and debris have buried local roads and inundated residential areas.
Human Initiative’s Humanitarian Response
In response, Human Initiative has deployed early assistance across the three provinces through four main actions:
Human Initiative continues to update field assessments and coordinate with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), village authorities, and local volunteers to ensure aid reaches priority areas. The response also focuses on vulnerable groups including children, women, older persons, and residents in isolated communities.
Human Initiative invites the public to support recovery efforts for affected families in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. Join this collective humanitarian effort through solusipeduli.org.
