Moving Through Difficult Times Together, Bag of Happiness Provides Ready to Eat Meals for Hutanabolon Residents

Flooding that struck Hutanabolon Village in Tukka District, Central Tapanuli, North Sumatra at the end of 2025 forced several families to temporarily leave their homes. Some residents are now staying in evacuation tents while waiting for conditions in their homes and surroundings to become safe again. In circumstances like these, families still need to maintain their daily food intake so that everyday activities can continue.

Conditions in evacuation shelters do not always allow residents enough space to cook. Limited equipment and confined areas make it difficult for some families to prepare meals independently. For this reason, ready to eat food becomes a more practical option. Residents can consume it immediately without needing additional preparation.

Through the Bag of Happiness program, Human Initiative distributes ready to eat meal packages to residents living in evacuation tents in Hutanabolon Village. Volunteers come directly to the evacuation site and distribute meal packages to families. Children, parents, and elderly residents can immediately enjoy the meals, helping ensure that their daily nutritional needs remain supported.

Before the distribution begins, the Human Initiative team coordinates with village authorities and evacuation site managers. Beneficiary data collection helps the team distribute assistance in a more targeted manner so that each family receives support according to their situation.

During the activity, volunteers also take time to greet residents and listen to their stories about life in the evacuation site. Simple conversations, warm greetings, and shared smiles help create a lighter atmosphere as the recovery process continues.
