Reaching Cut-Off Areas, Human Initiative and HIVE Volunteers Deliver Aid to the Most Isolated Flood-Affected Community in Agam Regency

Days of intense rainfall triggered floods and landslides across several regions of West Sumatra, including Agam Regency. Homes were inundated, roads were blocked by landslide material, and many families were forced to evacuate due to unsafe conditions. This situation required an immediate response to ensure that affected communities could receive assistance despite access challenges.

Evacuation teams together with local volunteers from the Human Initiative Volunteer Energy (HIVE) traveled to one of the most isolated affected areas in Agam Regency, Palembayan. Road access was completely cut off, leaving the area without sufficient support. On Saturday, 30 November, the team arrived after a combination of land travel and a 30 to 45 minute trek on foot. Upon reaching the location, the team assessed the community’s primary needs and distributed assistance entrusted by the public through Human Initiative. Meanwhile, search efforts continued, and heavy machinery worked to cut through the soft and deep soil.

The team’s visit to Palembayan ensured that residents in the farthest locations were not left behind. Difficult terrain and long distances did not deter the team from meeting community needs. The assistance delivered included essential supplies to help families withstand the emergency period. The team also maintained coordination with volunteers and authorities to ensure an effective humanitarian response that aligned with on-the-ground conditions.
