Reflections on National Heroes Day: Teachers, Unsung Heroes

Reflections on National Heroes Day: Teachers, Unsung Heroes

14 November 2021

A hero can be interpreted as a person who is meritorious and beneficial for the closest people or for the surrounding environment. There is no limit to the deeds one has done to be called a hero.

When Indonesia has not reached its independence, many of the nation’s sons and daughters were willing to struggle to leave their comfortable lives. They also left their wealth and free time in order to achieve a common goal, the independence of the archipelago.

When this country was hit by disasters in the form of disasters, earthquakes, landslides, and even tsunamis, people from all over the country stepped in to help. There are those who are ready to give their time, energy, thoughts, and skills to become humanitarian volunteers. Some of them also sincerely sent their possessions to those affected by the disaster. There are also those who do not stop praying for the safety of their compatriots.

When few people have good economic condition, there are people who are called to give their property selflessly for the good of other people. And there are also teachers who are sincere to pass on the knowledge they have to the next generation without expecting a reward for services.

All of those who have fought whether they have earned an official title or not, deserve appreciation. Their struggle, sincerity, and generosity should be an example so that goodness continues to become a culture that is rooted in this nation.

Heroic action is not always a giant and complicated agenda and requires a large amount of time. Heroic action is not always in the form of war and ends in defeat on one side. All good things that can be transmitted and have a positive impact on the environment are acts of heroism. Like the inspirational stories of education heroes whom the human initiative met recently.

Education Hero

In the midst of her busy schedule of studying, Citra Minash, a 5th semester student of the Accounting Study Program at a state university, decided to dedicate herself to help her younger siblings study. She encouraged them to pursue their dreams and continue their education as high as possible.

She who used to feel unable to pay tutors because of the high fees, is now grateful to be in a position that can help children who need learning.
Citra Minash, Relawan Pengajar HOME CLC Depok

Next is the inspirational story of the sisters Lala and Dela, who are both education students and love small children, have now decided to spend a lot of time accompanying their children to grow and study at the HOME Children Learning Center, Cimanggis, Depok, West Java.

Mbak Atin, Relawan Aktif bagian dari Rantai Kebaikan

In other parts of the archipelago, precisely in Jogjakarta, we meet Mbak Atin. Even though she has become a mother to her 2 children, she still dedicates herself to guiding the children in the area around where she lives. She focuses on stimulating children’s development, conducting learning activities, games, and introducing children to Allah the Almighty.

All great things always start small. All great things have a beginning. Therefore, no matter how short the steps you take today, no matter how small the trash you pick up today, believe that it is a good start for the next good habit.

As we approach this hero’s day, let’s imitate each other to continue competing to do good and be a good influence for the surrounding environment.

Kind regards, Happy Heroes Day!
