Reforestation Program on Semut Island, Collaboration between Human Initiative and Pertamina

Riau – On Wednesday (15/09/2021) Human Initiative Riau in collaboration with Pertamina Sei Siak carried out a reforestation program on Semut Island, Limbungan Baru Village, Rumbai Sub District.

The experimental planting of 120 rhizophora mangrove seedlings has been carried out in the context of reforestation activities. This mangrove planting activity was also attended by the Limbungan Village Head, Head of Community (RT/RW), and Limbungan residents.

Mrs. Welfina Sari Harahap, Limbungan Village Head, symbolically received the handover of mangrove seedlings. Apart from Semut Island, Mrs. Welfina also plans to communicate with the related parties. This is done in an effort to develop rice fields around the entrance to Semut Island.

“This area is the only area in Pekanbaru city that has a rice field area. Therefore, I am very excited to carry out this reforestation program,” said Mrs. Welfina.

After that, she further said, “We’re the only island here, so it’s likely we receive more attention.”

As a result, the enthusiasm of the parties present was a sign that the reforestation program was running well. They also went down to the river bank to plant mangrove seeds.

Syofi, the Pertamina’s Manager said, “The rice fields can be used as a recreation area, so people coming here not only see the fields, but also can have recreation at the same time.”

In conclusion, the Limbungan residents hope this reforestation activity can run successfully and finish well. If so, the tourism potential of Semut Island will be greater and can bring more benefits to visitors.
