RI President Visits Earthquake Location, Volunteer Team Assists Evacuation Process and Logistics Distribution

Cianjur – Thursday (24/11) The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, directly observed the handling of the earthquake in Cianjur, West Java. A number of ministers and heads of BNPB accompanied the president. These ministers include Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono, Coordinating Minister for PMK Muhadjir Effendy, Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini and Head of BNPB Suharyanto.

“This is the epicenter and the worst, especially for the houses that collapsed, the most was here. There are also many who died here,” said the President in Munjul Village, Gasol Village, Cugenang District, Thursday (24/11).
President Jokowi also emphasized that the main and most important focus is the evacuation process. Then after that the smooth distribution of logistics.
“The first is the evacuation process which we are focusing on, I received reports that there are still residents who need to be evacuated. The second is the smooth distribution of logistical assistance,” he added.

“The most important thing is that after the evacuation is finished, the distribution of aid can reach all locations, next is rehabilitation for houses that have collapsed heavily, moderately, or lightly,” the President concluded.
Since Monday night, right after the earthquake occurred, the Human Initiative has sent a team to respond to the incident. Until now the Human Initiative team continues to coordinate with volunteers in the field to carry out the evacuation together and help smooth the distribution of logistics.

Apart from evacuation and logistical distribution, the Human Initiative also prepared aid posts, charging stations for locations with power outages and water kitchen services. Currently, the Human Initiative impact study team is also operating to map the needs of each location and the affected communities.
