Rising After the Earthquake: Mi’rajul Huda Revives the Local Economy Through Pringgasela Weaving

The 2018 Lombok earthquake left behind many stories of loss. Among those affected were the traditional weavers of Pringgasela Subdistrict, East Lombok, who lost their workplaces and struggled to market their handmade products. Yet, amid hardship, the spirit to rise again gradually grew which has been driven by the initiative of the local community itself.

Through the Village Industry Development Program, Human Initiative, together with the residents of Pringgasela, established the Pringgasela Weaving Production House as a space for women weavers to restart their livelihoods. Here, they not only learn to strengthen their production skills but also rebuild confidence and mutual support after the difficult post-disaster period.

One key figure in this recovery is Mi’rajul Huda, who has helped the weavers expand their market networks and improve their sales strategies. Together with the Pringgasela Weaving Cooperative, they have developed a variety of new products such as fabrics, bags, clothing, and prayer mats. These efforts have opened new opportunities for increased income and greater family economic independence. “We stopped weaving for a while after the earthquake, but now we’re back at it and slowly recovering,” said one Pringgasela resident.
