Sirfah PKBM Open School, East Adonara

Education is very important for everyone and is no exception. But what if there are some people who cannot continue their education due to financial constraints? Or even due to over age?

Just like PKBM Sirfah Open School in East Adonara, East Flores sub district, East Nusa Tenggara. A group of teachers took the initiative to help children who had dropped out of school to continue their education for free. This good intention received a very enthusiastic response from the students to take part in the learning activity.

This teaching and learning activity takes place once a week. There are 3 School Packages available, including Package A for Primary School with 20 students, Package B for Junior High Schook with 72 students and Package C for High Schook with 95 students. They are 15-36 years old in average.

They are children from poor families, their parents’ income is below IDR 500,000. Abu Bakar Sidik Nira, as the head of the Community Learning Center, said that the existence of this open school is a call to the heart because there are some students who have good learning abilities but do not have money to pay for school tuition. So that the tutors who are generally civil servants serve in their own area so that their children can graduate and get school diplomas.

Until now, PKBM Sirfah does not have its own building. They study in public schools and take turns with other students. They are #AllHeroes fighting for themselves to gain knowledge and for a better family future.
