Situation Report #2: Aceh Floods – Evacuations Ongoing

Heavy rainfall since 25 November has caused widespread flooding across Aceh. Water levels rose rapidly, reaching more than two metres in several residential areas. Landslides have blocked land access to Central Aceh. Five 150 kV transmission towers along the Arun–Bireun line collapsed due to flash floods, resulting in power outages and disrupted communication networks. Many families were forced to leave their homes for safety.

This disaster has affected twelve districts and cities. Current data shows 27,568 households — or approximately 97,384 people — impacted. The distribution of affected populations includes Aceh Singkil with 6,039 households or 25,827 people, East Aceh with 7,972 households or 29,706 people, Pidie with 2,374 households or 8,766 people, Bireuen with 956 households or 2,272 people, North Aceh with 2,028 households or 3,690 people, South Aceh with 858 households or 3,106 people, Aceh Tamiang with 323 households or 1,142 people, West Aceh with 183 households or 265 people, Langsa City with 150 households or 420 people, Lhokseumawe City with 100 households or 419 people, and Bener Meriah Regency with 6 households. The reported number of fatalities stands at 12 people — nine in Central Aceh, two in North Aceh, and one in Southeast Aceh.

Support for Affected Communities

Human Initiative has mobilized a rapid humanitarian response together with local volunteers and key stakeholders. The team is evacuating residents trapped by rising floodwaters and moving them to safer locations. Ready-to-eat meals are being distributed to affected families in Pidie and Aceh Singkil to support immediate food needs during the emergency. Field teams are conducting direct needs assessments in Pidie, Aceh Singkil, and Lhokseumawe to ensure assistance reaches households whose access is blocked by landslides or damaged bridges.

Follow-up efforts remain ongoing. Human Initiative is strengthening coordination to scale up aid distribution and to accompany communities throughout the emergency response period. The focus is on ensuring sustained support so that affected families continue to receive essential supplies until conditions gradually stabilize and they are able to rebuild their daily lives.
