Floods and landslides that struck Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra since late November 2025 have had severe impacts on communities. More than 1.1 million people have been displaced after their homes were damaged or buried under two meters of mud. As of 4 December 2025, there are 812 confirmed fatalities, 509 people still missing, and more than 2,700 injured. Infrastructure has also suffered extensive damage, including 10,500 homes, hundreds of public facilities, and nearly 300 bridges. Although floodwaters have begun to recede in several areas, most residents cannot yet return home due to unsafe environmental conditions. Access to multiple affected locations was completely cut off before joint response teams succeeded in reopening air and land routes.

Human Initiative’s Actions and Urgent Needs on the Ground
Human Initiative has been responding since the first day the disaster was reported. The Emergency Response Team, together with local volunteers, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), and local authorities, has evacuated residents and supported ongoing Search and Rescue (SAR) operations. Water kitchens and public kitchens have been established in Pidie Jaya, North Aceh, Bireuen, Agam, and Padang to ensure access to food for survivors. The team has distributed ready-to-eat meals, snacks, and staple food packages in Pidie Jaya, Agam, Padang, Langkat, and Medan. Rapid needs assessments are ongoing to map priority assistance, including ready-to-consume food, clean water, hygiene kits, baby kits, and logistical support for hard-to-reach areas.
Dear Initiators are invited to join this collective humanitarian effort and support the recovery of disaster survivors through Human Initiative at solusipeduli.org. Your support helps ensure that assistance continues to reach affected communities.
In the coming days, Human Initiative will expand its response coverage to Central Aceh, Aceh Tamiang, Gayo Lues, Langkat, Sibolga, South Tapanuli, Solok, Pesisir Selatan, and Maninjau. The team is also preparing additional logistic shipments from Jakarta to Banda Aceh to strengthen on-the-ground operations.
