Stunting Remains a Challenge in East Nusa Tenggara: Local Government and Human Initiative Strengthen Collaboration

Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) – Stunting is not only a nutritional issue but also a developmental challenge affecting children in East Nusa Tenggara. The province continues to record a high prevalence of stunting, calling for structured action and strong coordination among multiple stakeholders.

On 13 October 2025, Human Initiative met with Governor Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena to discuss accelerating stunting reduction efforts. The meeting served as an opportunity to strengthen synergy between the local government, communities, the private sector, and humanitarian organizations. Human Initiative presented its strategy of connecting those in need with potential supporters to ensure resources are distributed effectively and reach the right beneficiaries. The organization emphasized that its role is to facilitate coordination and collaboration, not to take over existing programs.

NTT remains a priority because the causes of stunting in the region are multifaceted. Children face not only nutritional deficiencies but also limited access to sanitation, clean water, education, proper parenting, and socioeconomic stability. Governor Melki highlighted that stunting cannot be addressed by one party alone. Every element of society must work together, including local communities at the village and provincial levels, to ensure sustainable interventions.

First Step Through Golf for Humanity

As an initial step in this collaboration, Human Initiative will hold the Golf for Humanity event on 1 November 2025 at Sentul Highlands Golf Club. The event aims to engage businesses, communities, and the public in directly supporting stunting reduction programs in NTT through participation and various forms of contribution.

Together with the government, Human Initiative ensures that interventions in nutrition, sanitation, education, and social development complement one another. Regular evaluations are conducted to measure impact and maintain transparency in fund management, ensuring that the programs remain effective and sustainable.

Human Initiative invites the government, donor agencies, companies, communities, and individuals to join forces in accelerating stunting reduction efforts in NTT. Every contribution counts — from donations and advocacy to volunteering and participation in local programs.

Let us collaborate in this collective effort with the Human Initiative Team through solusipeduli.org, to build a healthy generation and a stunting-free Indonesia.
