Dear Initiators, it’s no longer surprising that many children spend time in front of screens playing games or watching entertainment. Parents often give their children phones to keep them calm, especially when they are busy or tired. However, it is important to set time limits on screen use to protect children’s health.
According to OSF Health Care, children who spend prolonged periods in front of a screen can experience negative effects on their health. Additionally, their ability to build relationships with friends and family can be disrupted. Parents play a crucial role in limiting their children’s use of gadgets by setting screen time rules and providing alternative activities that are both educational and fun.
Under 2 years old: No screen time at all, except for video calls with family or friends.
Ages 2-5: No more than one hour per day, with the presence of a parent or sibling.
Ages 5-17: Generally no more than two hours per day, except for homework.
Avoid screen time before bed: Children generally shouldn’t have screen time for two hours before bed. This is because the blue light emitted from screens can prevent the brain from recognizing when it’s time to prepare for sleep.
Fill the void: Don’t let your child’s free time be filled with phone use. Replace it with positive activities, such as outdoor sports or other engaging activities.
