Ustaz Anwar, Keep the Spirit of Teaching despite with Damaged Qur’an and Iqra Books

Darussalam Quran Learning Center (TPQ) is the only TPQ at Horale Village, Central Maluku. Ustaz Anwar is a teacher substituting previous Da’i who had returned to Java. Ustaz Anwar is always eager to bring TPQ Darussalam to life even if it’s in a state of disrepair. Unlike in big cities, the lack of access to electricity has never discouraged Ustaz Anwar’s enthusiasm for teaching.

This TPQ is located 77 KM from Masohi City Center, and is in a high land and difficult to access because this is a transmigration area for residents of other areas. TPQ Darussalam is the only TPQ here with 30 students. This situation is very concerning because there are still many inadequate facilities such as the Qur’an and Iqro books as well as buildings which construction has not been completed.

Ustadz M Anwar told that he collected money from teaching to qualify for TPQ Darussalam but it was not enough. He was hoping to be able to buy a decent window, ceiling, addition of the Qur’an and Iqro. The wells also need digging. During the rainy season they cannot access the well because the well is flooded. He also has electrical problems on a daily basis, hoping for a generator or adding a battery for lighting.

When met by Human Initiative volunteers, Ustadz Anwar told that he once went to sell cows to repair and meet the needs of this TPQ. The students only need to pay 10 thousand for Infaq da’wah and for replacement of lamps every month.
