What is Sacrifice? Initiator Friends Must Know This

Assalamualaikum Initiator Friends. Every year we will come to Dzulhijjah. In that month, precisely on the 10th of Dzulhijjah, there is a big day for Muslims. On that day we are asked by Allah the Al Mighty to sacrifice. On that day, Muslims perform a worship which main purpose is to draw closer to Allah. What is Sacrifice? “Qurban” literally means “Near”. So that the act of sacrificial worship must certainly be intended to get closer to Allah the Al Mighty.

What is the position of sacrificial worship with Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala?

Qurban has a noble position, although in value, this worship is worth charity. That is, on that day we distribute Qurban meat to those in need. However, making qurban on Eid ul Adha is more pleasing to Allah than alms with the same value as the sacrificial animal. As Ibn Qoyyim Rahimahullah said, “slaughter made at a noble time is better than alms worth the slaughter.”

Thus, making a sacrifice with a sacrificial animal is better than the value of alms. However, we must remember that the purpose of making qurban is solely to get closer to Allah and to pursue the title of a pious person. This is as the word of God which means:
“Their meat will not reach Allah, nor will their blood, but what reaches Him is piety from you. Thus have We subjected them to you that you may glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and give good tidings to the doers of good.” (Surat al-Hajj: 37)

In addition, one of the lessons of sacrifice is to imitate the Prophet Ibrahim Alaihissalam. At that time Allah tested him by giving orders in a dream to slaughter his son, Prophet Ismail Alaihissalam. However, suddenly Allah replaced Prophet Ismail with a lamb. So, qurban also teaches us to be patient with Allah’s provisions and Allah’s commands, because Allah is always with those who are patient.

Initiator Friends, that’s a little sharing of knowledge about qurban, may Allah make it easy for us to carry out the qurban worship this year. Thus, hopefully Allah will include us among the pious persons, Ameen.
