Why Is Sharing Encouraged in Muharram? Here Are 5 Virtues

Muharram is the first month in the Hijri calendar, marking the beginning of the Islamic New Year. For Muslims, this month becomes a moment to realign intentions, improve oneself, and strengthen care for others. As one of the sacred months in Islam, Muharram also encourages Muslims to increase good deeds and begin the year with beneficial actions.

In addition to sharing, Muharram is also a good time to increase acts of worship, one of which is voluntary fasting. The Prophet Muhammad SAW described fasting in the month of Muharram as the most virtuous fast after Ramadan. For this reason, many Muslims use this month to improve the quality of their worship while also strengthening their care for others.

Around us, there are still many children who need educational support, families struggling to meet their daily needs, and communities facing various challenges in life. Therefore, Muharram becomes the right momentum to strengthen the spirit of sharing.

Here are several virtues of sharing in the month of Muharram.

1. Great Rewards for Good Deeds

Muharram is one of the sacred months in Islam. For this reason, many Muslims use this month to increase good deeds, including sharing with others. Sharing in Muharram is one of the recommended acts to begin the year with goodness. Some scholars mention that the reward of sharing in Muharram is equal to the reward of sharing throughout an entire year.

2. Helping Ease the Difficulties of Others

When we share, we help meet the needs of those who are facing hardship. This support can help fulfill basic needs, education, and healthcare, allowing them to carry out their daily activities in better conditions.

3. Nurturing Gratitude

In addition to helping others, sharing also teaches us to be more grateful. Through the habit of sharing, we realize that every blessing we receive can bring benefits to others.

4. Becoming Part of a Good Habit

When we make sharing a habit, we train ourselves to care for others. Over time, this habit shapes a more sensitive attitude toward the needs of others.

5. Strengthening Social Care

Sharing does not only help beneficiaries, but also strengthens relationships among people. In addition, the habit of sharing can nurture the spirit of mutual support and create a positive impact on the surrounding community.

As we enter Muharram 1448 H, let us make the beginning of this year a momentum to expand our care for others.
