Aksa: Holding onto Hope for Education

Aksa: Holding onto Hope for Education

9 July 2023

Human Initiative – It is truly remarkable to witness the determination of single parents who strive to provide the best education for their children, just like Aksa’s mother*. Aksa’s story, shared with Human Initiative, reveals the challenges faced by his mother after the passing of his father. She had to work tirelessly to support Aksa’s school fees.

Aksa, a 12-year-old with a strong passion for learning, opens up to Human Initiative about his experiences. In his story, Aksa introduces his mother, who became the pillar of strength for their family following the loss of his father.

Aksa’s mother faced immense difficulties juggling work and caring for her children. Therefore, Grandma stepped in and took on the responsibility of nurturing and educating Aksa to become a good child.

Grandma, Can I Keep Going to School?

Despite Aksa’s mother working tirelessly to provide for their daily needs and education expenses, Aksa still worries about his future. He often asks, “Grandma, can I continue going to school?”

His loving Grandma always reassures Aksa that he should stay in school. For her, education is every child’s right that must be fulfilled, regardless of their circumstances.

“Help will always come to change everything,” Aksa says, imitating his Grandma’s words.

Granny’s advice fills Aksa with even more excitement. Aksa accompanies Grandma in selling rice bowl in the Depok area every day, believing that one day he will become an entrepreneur.

Dear Initiators, Aksa is just one among millions of children who dream of completing their education. Let us not allow their challenging circumstances to extinguish their dreams.
