Bulan & Rama, The Spirit of Never Ending to Learn

Limitations are not an obstacle to achieving goals. It seems that this is very much in line with the description of a 6th grade student of SD 1 Jonggrangan named Bulan. She has artistic talent, namely painting. This also explains why she loves coloring so much. However, Bulan’s goals are very different from her hobbies and talents, because she says she wants to be a soldier.

Bulan has a sweet little brother named Rama. To Human Initiative team, Rama revealed that he also wanted to become a soldier, just like her sister’s dream. Everyday, Bulan and her younger brother, Rama go to school at 06:30 am and return home from school at 12:00 noon local time. They have a relentless passion for learning.

Their father used to take Bulan and Rama to school. “Father takes us to school,” said Bulan to Human Initiative team when asked who took them to school. This girl who loves cabbage is also very fond of learning. Especially in mathematics and themes.

Even though her daily life at home is busy with studies, Bulan still shows devotion to her parents. She often helps her mother wash the dishes. She also prefers to play at home because the distance between her house and her friends or neighbors’ houses a is very far. “No, I prefer to play at home. Because all of my friends live far away,” she said.

Sure enough, to get to a neighbor’s or friends’ house, she has to walk along a path that had been made by Bulan’s family. Bulan’s house is located at the very end of the road and the lowest in the area. So, to get to Bulan’s house, you have to go around and down the hill to find a house which is located at the far end.

Bulan’s & Rama’s Parents Job

Bulan’s father works as a farm laborer. Every day, he looks for coconut trees to pick the fruit. Then, the coconuts will be sold to collectors. The income is uncertain. However, he usually earns Rp. 50,000 per day or Rp. 150,000 per week with 3×1 week working hours. While her mother is a housewife.
