Citra Minash, Volunteer Lecturer at HOME CLC Depok

5 November 2021

Be grateful, that was the first time Citra said when she was asked how she felt about being an active Human Initiative teaching volunteer at the HOME Children Learning Center (CLC) Depok.

Initially Citra, who is a 5th semester student of the Accounting Study Program at a state university, only intended to complete her curriculum vitae data which she felt was too brief. She began to participate in various activities including becoming a mental health agent in one of campus external organizations. As a mental health agent, she learned how to restore the confidence of some traumatized people. However, she always deals with cases of older people or of the same age as hers. From there she began to think about trying volunteer activities related to small children.

Social media has also brought Citra together with the HOME Children Learning Center. After registering and submitting the file, Citra was called for an interview. Before starting teaching the students, Citra first received an intellectual opinion on how to handle children.

Valuable Lessons from HOME CLC Depok

The first event she participated in was the virtual August 17th anniversary with the children. Then continued with regular teaching activities at the HOME Children Learning Center in Cijago. Feelings of tiredness and dizziness approached Citra at the beginning of her activities. But over time it turns out that she enjoys and gets satisfaction from this activity.

From these children, Citra learns and realizes that not everyone is as good as her. There may be many children out there who already have their own cellphones. But here there are some children who are still lacking so that Citra learns to be more accepting of the situation and appreciate what she has.

In addition to teaching various things she knows, Citra also gets a lot of new things from them. About how to manage emotions, as well as how she must master a variety of different communication styles between her students, peers and with her superiors. Moreover, seeing their small habits change for the better made her more enthusiastic to continuously accompanying them to study.

Citra who used to feel she could not afford to pay her school tuition is now grateful to be in a position that can help children who need education.

The urge to continue to pursue her dreams and continue her education as high as possible is one of the things that Citra pays attention to. She continues to encourage children at the secondary school level not to be afraid to dream and assure them that they have a good future and are worthy of continuing their education to the next level.

Come join Citra and other volunteers to provide direct support to students who need tutoring by being part of the Human Initiative volunteer through the HIVE website.

We are waiting for contributions from all Initiator Friends.
