Sittwe, Myanmar – Cyclone Mocha, with a speed of 250 km/hour, struck on Sunday (14/5), devastating the Human Initiative training center in Sittwe, Myanmar. This cyclone obliterated the training center, which previously served as a vital supply hub for Rohingya refugees.

“The training ground is now completely unusable. Everything has been reduced to rubble,” said Khin, Human Initiative Field Officer for Myanmar.

Khin informed all volunteers at Human Initiative Headquarters in Indonesia via WhatsApp messages, sharing screenshots that displayed the demolished training center.

In his report, Khin mentioned his plan to visit the affected refugee camps to assess the condition of the shelters. Additionally, he will inspect several school buildings constructed by Human Initiative in the vicinity.

Prior to Cyclone Mocha’s impact, the training center played a crucial role as a provisioning site for Rohingya refugees benefiting from the Human Initiative program.

Moreover, the training center building served as a hub for providing aid during Ramadan 2023 to the beneficiaries and empowering Rohingya refugees in Sittwe, Myanmar.
