Egypt Starts Establishing Camps for Palestinian Humanitarian Crisis Survivors in Khan Younis

6 March 2024

Egypt has begun setting up a second camp for Palestinian refugees in Khan Younis with a capacity of 400 tents to accommodate 4,000 people in cooperation with the Palestinian Red Crescent.

The new camp will be equipped with electricity and water as part of Egypt’s efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.

Egypt will also establish a field hospital in the city of Rafah, in southern Gaza, and relief camps in Deir Al-Balah in central Gaza. Two aid distribution centers will also be set up in Rafah, which is now home to 1.5 million Palestinian refugees displaced by Israeli bombings for five months in the area.

Additionally, Egypt established the first camp for Palestinian refugees in Khan Younis in December and expanded it in January.

According to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), more than 85 percent of Gaza’s 2.4 million population have been displaced multiple times since the start of Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip on October 7.

Hundreds of thousands of refugees seek shelter in 155 UNRWA facilities. About 70 percent of Gaza’s 439,000 homes and nearly half of its buildings have been damaged or destroyed by Israeli airstrikes and bombings.

Let’s continue to send support and prayers to our brothers and sisters in Palestine.
