Turkey Releases “International Call”, Humanitarian Alarm Sign to the World

Turkey – A sign of the humanitarian alarm sounded, Turkey released an “International Call” on February 6, 2023 to the citizens of the world. This request for assistance is a search and rescue effort for residents affected by the earthquake.

An earthquake measuring magnitude 7.8 rocked east of Nurdagi, Gaziantep Province, Turkey, on February 6, 2023 at 04.00 am local time. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) recorded the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 KM and rocked several countries in the region, including Syria and Lebanon.

The process of evacuating victims of the Turkish earthquake is experiencing problems. Heavy snow fell in almost all regions of Turkey, which made it difficult for the evacuation team to move to save tens of thousands of residents who were buried under collapsed buildings.

The Minister of Interior of Turkey, Suleymon Soylu, said the 10 cities affected by the earthquake included Gaziantep, Kahramanmaras, Hatay, Osmaniye, Adiyaman, Malatya, Sanliurfa, Adana, Diyarbakir and Kilis. Afet ve Acil Durum Yönetimi Başkanlığı (AFAD) which is the Presidency of Disaster and Emergency Management in Turkey, issued the latest data (Data: February 6, 2023. At 17.00) that 2,323 people were injured, 284 people died, and 1,719 permanent buildings collapsed after the earthquake .

The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, wrote his best wishes to his citizens via his Twitter account @RTErdogan (6/2). He said all units will be on standby under the coordination of AFAD which is the Presidency of Disaster and Emergency Management in the State of Turkey. The head of the Turkish Red Cross said the team was in the process of mobilizing resources for the area, as information indicated there was serious damage, and urged residents to evacuate their homes which had been damaged.
