Volunteers Work Hand in Hand to Help Residents Affected by Floods in Garut Regency

Floods and landslides that hit Garut Regency on Thursday (22/9) affected about 1200 families. The incident occurred after heavy rains caused the overflow of the Cipelabuh and Cikaso Rivers. Not long after the incident, several embankments were damaged so that the river water overflew to the residential area.

Responding to this incident, since Monday (26/9), Human Initiative (HI) together with a team of volunteers have helped affected residents through clean activities, distribution of baby blankets, kitchen water services and psychosocial services for children. The activity took place in Leuwi Simar Village, Pameungpeuk District, Garut Regency.

Indra Budi Legowo, Head of West Java Human Initiative Branch conveyed HI activities to help affected residents.
“God willing, we and other volunteers will work together to help the affected residents here. Alhamdulillah, several services such as water kitchens and psychosocial services have been running, hopefully all of these can continue to provide benefits for the affected residents,” said Indra.

For the Clean-Up activity, HI volunteers worked together with the Fire and Disaster Preparedness Team (Tagana) to clean access roads and residential areas from mud caused by flooding. At the same time, the volunteers also distributed child blankets as aid to vulnerable groups. Kitchen water services and psychosocial assistance also help local residents, especially children, through the post-flood recovery period.
