The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) noted that Indonesia produced 21.88 million tons of waste in 2021. From this data, it is known that out of 2,800 tons of waste generated in Bogor Regency every day, only 700 tons of waste can be served by the Environmental Service (DLH) Bogor Regency to be taken to the Galuga Landfills (TPA), Bogor Regency.
Seeing these problems, Human Initiative is present through the Bijak Berplastik program in collaboration with PT. TIV (Tirta Investama) Citeureup Subdistrict and Gunung Putri Subdistrict in Cicadas Village and Leuwinutug Village in facilitating the community to manage their household waste with 3R principles so as to reduce the volume of waste disposed of in the local landfills.

In the second year, 6 Waste Banks were established at Cicadas Village and education was carried out in 2 Elementary Schools
In the third year, 9 Waste Banks were established at Cicadas Village and 1 at Leuwinutug . Village.
From this program, the community can create a waste bank that is used to collect waste from every household around the village. There are 9 waste banks at Cicadas Village and 1 waste bank at Leuwinutug Village. People who manage waste banks can also improve their economic level. Because they can get income from the waste bank which has been sorted and then sold to local collectors.
The Wisdom of Plastics Program has been carried out from 2020 until now in August 2022. One of the waste bank managers at Cicadas Village said “We are grateful because with this program, people are more aware of a clean environment. And the community is able to do the sorting of their own waste.” he said.

The program entitled #BijakBerplastic Waste Bank has been running for 3 years.
Increasing Income Sources and Community Understanding

From these activities, the number of people who have been educated is 2925 people for the Cicadas Village area and 552 people for the Leuwinutug Village area. With this program, the surrounding community will have a better understanding of how to sort waste. Impact evaluation data conducted at 9 waste banks in Cicadas Village and 1 waste bank in Leuwinutug Village revealed that 100% of program beneficiaries have now sorted waste at the household level and all of them have submitted the sorted waste to the Waste Bank.
“This program must still be carried out if we consider the habits of our society, , especially the target area, where still a lot of people who are not aware of the environment, especially in sorting waste,” said Tita, Head of the Bijak Berplastik project.
