Discussing World Refugee Issues, HI Presents at Regional Forum in Thailand

Bangkok – Monday (12/9), Human Initiative (HI) attended the Force Migration discussion in Bangkok, Thailand on 12-14 September 2022. This activity involved 35 participants from 3 global regional alliances namely ICVA RAP, Asia Pacific The Refugees Right Network (APRRN) and the Asia Displacement Solution Platform (ADSP), the three of which were also the initiators of this activity. UNHCR as a UN agency that focuses on the issue of world refugees also participated in the forum.

The activity took place in the form of a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) by discussing the issue of Refugees and Displacement that occurred in the world today. Human Initiative was one of the NGOs that had the opportunity to participate in the discussion. This is because Human Initiative cares about the issue of world refugees.

In this discussion there are several discussions that become the main focus. One of them is related to the Global Refugees Forum (GRF) which was held in 2019. The event is scheduled to take place again at the end of 2023. In addition, discussions regarding the Solution Strategy for Afghan Refugees (SSAR) for handling refugees in 3 countries: Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran as the largest home for Afghan refugees. UNHCR’s support is also important in providing a special platform for planning, resource management, monitoring to strategy implementation.

In the forum, each participant also provided input and discussion in the discussion as a member of these three global regional alliances. In this regard, UNHCR pays special attention to SSAR. In addition, UNHCR also expects the contribution and participation of the government and other parties in this platform, including elements of civil society institutions for SSAR.

On this occasion, Human Initiative made a recommendation to hold a separate follow-up discussion on the global problem of Rohingya refugees. Related to the substance of this FGD, the Human Initiative also proposes to expand the discussion at the local level. The proposal also received a good response from forum participants.
