Fina Musa Faadah, Young Al-Qur’an Teacher from Magelang

It started from a friend’s invitation to spend free time, Fina Musa Faadah or who is more familiar with Fina is now devoting herself to teaching at Al-Islam Al-Qur’an Education School, Magelang, Central Java.

“Yes, when I first taught at Al Islam because I got married with a man from the area. I followed my husband. Then I started teaching there to spend my spare time with Mbak Tiya who had previously taught there,” said the 21-year-old woman via WhatsApp message. Since before getting married, Fina also has daily activities at the Islamic boarding school so that she is used to teaching the Al Quran School.

Fina’s Activities as a Teacher of the Qur’an

The activities at the Al Quran School are 2 times a day. It starts in the afternoon at 16.30 – 17.30 WIB and continues at 18.00 – 19.00 WIB every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday for the memorization program and Saturday to deepen the students’ understanding of tajwid. For children who cannot read the Qur’an, Fina applies the classical method. The trick is to give an example of how to read once and then the students follow the reading.

Until now, there are 5 teachers and 75 students who actively participate in teaching and learning activities at the TPA. The children are divided into several groups based on the ability to recite the Koran that they have mastered. Fina herself is responsible for a number of students who are studying the reading of the Qur’an to the stage of reading Iqra.

Of course, she faces many challenges and new experiences from being a teacher in this TPA for one month. One of the challenges is the small number of teachers compared to the large number of students. There is also no honorarium for teachers because all students get all forms of teaching free of charge. Therefore, all daily needs such as electricity bills and all TPA facilities are borne by Mr. Mutafiin as the founder of Al-Islam Quran School.

Inadequate facilities and students who do not have the Qur’an are one of Fina’s concerns and the challenges she must face. She also has to have extra patient to teach them because every student has different ability to learn. Some children need longer time in understanding the lesson.
