Food and Medical Emergency in Gaza: Human Initiative Distributes the Goodness of the One Day One Juz Community to Palestine

29 October 2023

Gaza, Palestine – The entire city of Gaza, Palestine, is facing an emergency in terms of food and medical supplies. This situation is due to technical, political, security, and Israeli government policies that hinder the delivery of humanitarian aid to Palestine.

Since the opening of the Rafah border gate on October 21, 84 humanitarian aid trucks have entered Palestine, as reported by Anadolu Ajansi. Unfortunately, according to the United Nations (UN), this number is far below the daily average in Palestine. Quoting Antara, before the escalation, the UN stated that an average of 500 humanitarian aid trucks entered every day.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) revealed that three types of humanitarian aid had entered Palestine. This aid consisted of water, food, and medical supplies. The humanitarian aid from Egypt has been distributed to various healthcare facilities and survivors in Gaza.

Compassion from the One Day One Juz (ODOJ) Community through Human Initiative

The One Day One Juz (ODOJ) community, a community that actively promotes a love for the Quran, has gathered goodness from its community members. In their talk show titled “President’s Greetings: The Latest News about Our Brothers and Sisters in Palestine” on Thursday, October 26, ODOJ discussed the situation in Palestine and reported on the humanitarian funds that have been distributed in Gaza, Palestine.

In their report during the talk show, Human Initiative, along with the kindness of the ODOJ community, had distributed the first phase of humanitarian aid consisting of 166 packages of groceries and medical supplies on Tuesday, October 24. This aid targeted survivors who had taken refuge in Majida Wasela School and Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza, Palestine.

The food aid in the form of grocery packages for survivor families at Majida Wasela School in northern Gaza consisted of 11 types of items. Some of the items included in the grocery package were beef (two cans), cream cheese (two), cooking oil (one liter), canned legumes (six cans), macaroni (one kilogram), tomato paste (two cans), jam (one can), halawa (one can), granulated sugar (one kilogram), tea (one bag), and zatar/oregano (250 grams).

As for medical supplies for survivors who were injured at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza, it included First Aid medicines (P3K) and basic medical supplies. This aid was essential since the availability of medicines for civilians who were injured was dwindling.

Despite the challenges, Human Initiative, through its humanitarian collaboration partners in Gaza, Palestine, continues to coordinate efforts, even in very limited and difficult conditions. Since Friday, October 27, when all communication channels in Gaza were cut off, coordination between the two humanitarian organizations has become even more challenging. Nevertheless, Human Initiative, along with humanitarian collaboration partners in Gaza, strives to ensure that this trust reaches the survivors and supports them to remain resilient in these less than ideal circumstances.
