Human Initiative and PT Smelting Distribute Bed Equipment Aid for Survivors of Semeru Eruption

Human Initiative in collaboration with PT Smelting distributed basic necessities and bedding for residents affected by the eruption of Mount Semeru in Lumajang Regency on Sunday, December 26, 2021. Indra SW Junor who was also present there as General Affairs Manager of PT Smelting expressed his condolences to the affected residents, especially those living in the Hamlet of Kamar Kajang.

“I can’t imagine the feelings you will feel after this disaster. I hope that in the future the lives of the people affected by the Semeru eruption can return to normal and disasters like this will not happen again in the future. Hopefully a little help from us can also be useful as well as lighten your burden,” he said at that moment.

The assistance provided was in the form of bed equipment consisting of blankets and mattresses. There is also assistance with cleaning equipment such as toiletries and household appliances. This assistance has been distributed properly on Saturday, December 25, 2021 for 30 families in the Hamlet of Kamar Kajang, precisely in Sumberwuluh Village, Candipuro District, Lumajang Regency.

Not only assistance in the form of supporting daily needs, survivors and residents affected by Semeru also received psychosocial assistance in the form of Psychological First Aid. This is aimed at restoring their mental health at the post of the eruption which still leaves deep emotions on some survivors.

Therefore, until now, Human Initiative team together with Mental Health Indonesia (KMI) are still providing psychosocial services and trauma healing for survivors or residents affected by the Semeru eruption.

“Obviously, this incident left a lot of trauma and anxiety. Especially for survivors who lost family members. So, this assistance is very important for them,” said Hena Rustiana, Chair of KMI.
