Agam, West Sumatra – The Human Initiative has partnered with YBM BRIlian to construct clean water facilities in Kampung Maur Hilir, Nagari Salareh Aia, Agam Regency, West Sumatra. This humanitarian collaboration addresses the basic needs of the Agam community in Kampung Maur Hilir, who previously relied on the river for their bathing, laundry, and toilet needs.

The provision of clean water facilities, toilets, and ablution places is part of a series of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programs. Starting from September 2022 until January 2023, Human Initiative will begin the construction of intake and reservoir tanks.

To maximize the impact of this humanitarian aid, Human Initiative has facilitated the installation of a 2.5 km pipeline. This assistance will be instrumental in connecting water to the residents’ homes.

A Beneficial Kindness for Indonesia

The Regional Secretary of Agam Regency, Drs. Edi Busti, M.Si, expressed his appreciation for the collaborative effort between YBM BRIlian and Human Initiative. He emphasized that this program meets the basic needs of the Agam community and is very beneficial for them.

During the inauguration of the WASH Human Initiative program with YBM BRIlian in Kampung Maur Hilir (18/3), he stated, “We hope that the management of this clean water facility is sustainable, and the community actively participates in maintaining existing facilities.”

Abdul Aziz Nasta, the Supervisor of YBM BRILiaN Padang, stated that the WASH program in Nagari Salareh Aia was part of a collaborative effort that had been implemented by YBM BRIlian in several regions of Indonesia. “This program was a contribution from BRI and YBM BRIlian to the Republic of Indonesia, demonstrating their efforts to make a meaningful impact,” he said.

The WASH program was warmly welcomed by the local community, with the mothers in Maur Hilir serving them food hampers. It is a tradition and local wisdom of the area, as a form of gratitude for the availability of clean water facilities in their village during Ramadhan this year.

“I hope the clean water facility would continue to benefit around 90 families or the equivalent of 500 people, as well as the Clean Water Management Unit that had been formed will continuously be capable of responding to the challenges of managing this facility,” Hendra Nafsosianto, the Head of the Bukittinggi Human Initiative Branch, expressed his hope.
