Joint Commitment of the Indonesian Humanitarian Development Alliance (AP-KI)

24 August 2022

Jakarta – Tuesday (23/8), the Indonesian Humanitarian Development Alliance (AP-KI) stated their commitment to maintain and strengthen their commitment to the code of ethics in the humanitarian movement.

With members of the largest networks in Indonesia, namely MPBI, FOZ, POROZ, PFI, JMK, SEJAJAR, and HFI, the Alliance commemorates World Humanitarian Day which falls on August 19 by signing a statement of commitment to the humanitarian code of ethics. AP-KI member networks have agreed to apply the Humanitarian Code of Ethics along with specific rules in respective member network.

AP-KI considers this commitment as a pillar of accountability for humanitarian action between civil society organizations. It is because they take part in an ecosystem that involves moral, social and professional responsibilities, especially in the management of humanitarian aid from donors. On the other hand, it is necessary to deliver assistance in a dignified manner to communities in need.

Nelwan Harahap, Assistant Deputy for Emergency and Post-Disaster Management at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, supports AP-KI’s statement of commitment.

“Indeed, generosity and volunteerism are always needed. This can take place well as long as humanitarian workers have the public’s trust, in that regard, attitude, competence, and commitment to accountability are needed,” said Nelwan.

Representative from UNOCHA Indonesia, the UN agency for humanitarian coordination, Titi Moektijasih, stated that currently worldwide there are more than 303 million people in need of humanitarian assistance. This great work requires collaboration and commitment to have an effective impact.

M Ali Yusuf, representing the Indonesian Humanitarian Forum (HFI) as well as the convener of AP-KI, explained the need for coordination and collaboration between all stakeholders based on strengthening the policies that underlie, regulate, and provide an umbrella for the technical activities of humanitarian activists in the field.

Human Initiative itself is part of the HFI. So that it becomes part of the alliance in maintaining the commitment to the humanitarian code of ethics.

Through the signing of a statement of commitment by its member networks, AP-KI hopes that the humanitarian community in Indonesia will become more mature, competent, and responsible for strengthening the humanitarian movement in the future.
