Mbak Atin, Being Part of the Chain of Kindness

Mbak Atin, Being Part of the Chain of Kindness

26 October 2021

The presence of active volunteer in the community is one of the most important keys. Volunteers or selfless people are willing to serve sincerely. They do not get paid, not expect anything in return. They have proven that in this world there are still people who care. Many, even though living in simplicity, still think about other people and try to contribute to the environment.

This is what Mbak Atin has been doing all this time. She is an active volunteer in her residential area of Girimulyo, Kulon Progo, Special Region of Yogyakarta. Even though she is a mother of two children, Mba Atin is still active in social activities.

She began to get involved in social activities when she was still in high school. Mbak Atin, who is a member of the taklim assembly and occupies the social fund sector, requires her to go to help and visit remote areas. While doing so, she realized that helping others brings happiness. Starting from this activity until now Mba Atin is still actively giving her dedication to the community.

In 2013 she joined Human Initiative volunteer. At that time she was in charge of providing donations for orphans. Even though it is difficult and perhaps even complicated, there is always pleasure and happiness when she can help others.

In her focus on volunteerism, she is a specialist in the field of education, especially for children aged 4-6 years. She stimulates children’s development, conducts learning activities, games, and introduces children to Allah SWT.

Currently, she is focusing on social activities in the Kulon Progo area. Precisely in Girimulyo sub-districts, which consists of four villages.

Challenge of Mbak Atin Being an Active Volunteer

When asked about the challenges of doing the social activities, she said that she was the wife of a hamlet head. Indirectly she is now also a “parent” to the community. If there are aids and the number of packages is limited, she must find a way to distribute it fairly and keeps in mind that all sustenance comes from Allah. In addition to the challenges of dealing with the community, the distance of the location of the activity fields which are sometimes far apart, the road conditions, the difficulty of coordination, and the contours of the mountains require complex preparations.

When landslides and fallen trees occurred, Mba Atin also went to the field to help the affected community. Seeing how the people affected by the disaster were able to stay strong after experiencing trials, Mba Atin was very touched and impressed. A child named Satrio who lives with his mother is also a concern, because with his inability to get up and talk, Satrio has not been registered on the list of beneficiaries because he has run out of internet quota.

For you who want to take part in volunteer activities, Mbak Atin advised to prepare yourself physically, spiritually, and you must have strong motivation, because if we get the mandate to go to a place that is quite difficult to access, it requires energy, time, mind, and material, both physically and mentally, we are ready, while motivation makes a volunteer not easy to complain.

Hopefully through this story, you will have determination to take part in the social activities so that we can feel happiness when helping many people. Come join us and be part of the chain of goodness by volunteering for Human Initiative through the HIVE website.

See you at the next activity, Initiator Friends.
