Most Joyful Thanksgiving in Tuhoi Hamlet, Gowa Regency

Gowa, South Sulawesi – Sunu Prasetya, a volunteer from Human Initiative headquarters, witnessed the immense anticipation for qurban meat as a special menu in this region. He gasped when the beneficiary made a prostration of gratitude right at the door of his house as a form of happiness.

Sunu Prasetya, Leader of Human Initiative Quality Management System, departed from Jakarta to carry out a mandate to oversee the distribution of qurban in Gowa, South Sulawesi. Among the several areas he visited, Tuhoi Hamlet in Tabinjai Village, Buttono District, Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi was the most memorable for him.

Previously, Human Initiative received information from a Human Initiative Da’i who is a native of Tuhoi Hamlet. He admitted that his area never got qurban meat on Eid al-Adha. For this reason, the South Sulawesi branch of Human Initiative landed a cow from a donor’s qurban trust on Eid al-Adha for the residents of Tuhoi Hamlet in Gowa Regency.

No Qurban in Tuhoi Hamlet

Still not believing that the community had not had qurbani meat for a long time, the volunteers finally asked one of the Tuhoi village officials during a field survey. He revealed that people very rarely eat meat, while they can eat it, people are waiting for the moment of celebration.

“As far as I can remember, while I’m here, there have been no qurban here,” he said.

Likewise with one of the children of Dusun Tuhoi. When the volunteer asked when was the last time he ate meat, he glanced up with a smile and said “I forgot,” he said.

Overflowing Happiness

There is one more thing that makes Human Initiative volunteers believe that the people of Tuhoi Hamlet really rarely eat beef, lamb, or goat. This happened during distribution to one very humble house.

A man, with his family members peeking from the door, received a bag of qurbani meat from a Human Initiative volunteer. While saying thank you, the man made a prostration of gratitude that made the volunteers freeze.

Volunteers who came from big cities in Indonesia were stunned. A bag of qurbani meat is able to make a family head happy and prostrate to express his gratitude.

The father didn’t talk much, there wasn’t much expression on his face, and he had nothing else to say other than thank you. His prostration of gratitude seemed to be a universal language to express the happiness that had overflowed in his heart.
