Qurban in Human Initiative: Igniting the Spirit of Local Breeders

Qurban in Human Initiative: Igniting the Spirit of Local Breeders

2 July 2023

It doesn’t feel like we are between two holidays, namely Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. If we recall, in just one more month, we will joyfully welcome Eid al-Adha. The same goes for local breeders. Their enthusiasm multiplies as they anticipate selling their livestock with the support from our Dear Initiators who purchase through the Human Initiative’s qurban program.

In 2022, Human Initiative distributed 8,473 qurban animals to 257,175 beneficiaries through the Insya Allah Qurban program. This act of kindness extended to three countries and 21 provinces, involving more than 1,200 volunteers.

Among the various distributions of Qurban animals, there are local breeders who find joy during Eid al-Adha. The Human Initiative had the opportunity to have a conversation with one of the local stakeholders in Neglasari Village, Bogor, West Java. He shared his inspirational story of becoming a sheep farmer, which has empowered his life.

Mr. Entong (51), the sheep farmer, has been raising sheep since 2016. He has experienced many ups and downs on his journey, but the support of 5 sheep from Human Initiative has allowed him to live an empowered life.

“Alhamdulillah, I was able to buy a motorcycle for my family with cash, without any credit. At my age, I was afraid of passing away and leaving behind debts,” he said.

Pak Entong took excellent care of the sheep provided by Human Initiative, and they multiplied, attracting buyers and sacrificers. The proceeds from the sale of these sheep enable Pak Entong to support his family, educate his children, and even purchase a motorcycle for their needs.

He also uses the proceeds from raising livestock to fulfill his religious duties, such as performing sacrifices with the animals he has cared for wholeheartedly. “I have sheep, so I sacrifice. This is a provision for me in the afterlife,” concluded Pak Entong.

Being a sheep farmer like Pak Entong is truly special. He nurtures his own sacrificial animals and selflessly offers them during times of economic hardship, solely for the sake of piety towards Allah.

“Our goal is not only to distribute qurban to remote corners of the country but also to actively support the economic empowerment of local breeders by directly sourcing animals from breeders in remote areas,” said Miftahul Surur, the head of the Human Initiative qurban squad.

Dear Initiators, let’s bring happiness to local breeders like Mr. Entong by choosing your qurban early through Human Initiative at Solusipeduli.org.
